Angel’s Share
2016
Elliott Erwitt Fellowship
Turkish photographer Ali Taptik has been awarded the first ‘Elliott Erwitt Havana Club 7 Fellowship’.
In this short essay, “Angel’s Share,” Taptik thinks about the global urban condition in the streets of Havana. The relationship between generations is like an invisible vapor, about to disappear, like those significant moments that constantly appear in front of your eyes. Nothing dissolves forever. The series contrasts the Cuban culture inherited not only in the gestures and features but also in vernacular elements of architecture. Young, energetic bodies that will take Havana into the future combined with the doubts and worries of a photographer away from home during the hottest July of all time Taptik opens the door to the becoming Havana.
